Why Saona Island belongs on your Punta Cana holiday itinerary

White-sand beaches, a fishing village and a day on the Caribbean Sea: discover what makes Saona special and how to choose the right experience.

A different side of your beach holiday

A resort can make a Punta Cana holiday wonderfully easy. Saona gives you a reason to leave the pool for a day: a boat journey, stretches of palm-lined coast and a change of pace. It is a full-day outing, so choose a day when you are happy to spend time travelling as well as relaxing.

The journey is part of the experience

Saona excursions depart from Bayahibe. Your day therefore begins with a road transfer from your Punta Cana hotel, followed by the boat journey. The sea conditions matter: if someone in your group gets seasick, discuss that before choosing a departure. Saona is a beach and boat day rather than a short outing near your resort.

One island, two very different days

Our Classic option suits visitors who prioritise price and enjoy a lively, larger group. It travels on a large catamaran with approximately 40–80 guests and visits one beach. Our Premium experience takes approximately 10–20 guests by speedboat, with four signature stops: the Natural Pool, Toro Beach, Mano Juan and Canto de la Playa. These are four stops, not four beaches: the Natural Pool is a shallow-water stop.

Why the Premium route feels more varied

The beach is only part of the appeal. Mano Juan adds a fishing-village stop and a Dominican buffet lunch by the beach. Canto de la Playa brings another coastal setting, while the Natural Pool provides time in shallow sea water. The combination suits travellers who want to see more than one beach setting during their island day. The order of stops can depend on conditions.

What is included, and what to confirm

Round-trip hotel transfer is included in our tours. The Premium Saona experience also includes a Dominican lunch and local rum, beer, water and soft drinks. Check the current Classic and Premium prices, inclusions and child rates on our Saona tour page. Tell us your hotel, date and group size so we can confirm pickup and availability before you book.

Who will enjoy Saona most?

Saona works well for couples, friends and families who enjoy being on the water and want a full day away from the resort. A speedboat and several stops may suit an active group; a larger catamaran day may appeal to a group seeking a sociable atmosphere. For limited mobility, young children or concerns about boarding and swimming, discuss your needs with us first. A private group arrangement can also be requested.

Pack for the boat as well as the beach

Bring swimwear, a towel, sun protection, a hat and a dry bag for your phone. Take any personal essentials you need for a full day outside the hotel. Leave room in your schedule for the return transfer. Never touch, lift or remove starfish or other marine wildlife for a photo.

Our recommendation

Choose Saona for a day that combines travel, sea and beach time. Choose the Premium route if smaller groups and a varied itinerary are your priority; choose Classic if the lower price and a bigger group fit your plans. For a shorter outing or less time on a boat, compare other excursions before committing.
